Nikon Supply Problems in Thailand
The following extracts are from Mr Takami Tsuchida, the President of Nikon Europe and outlines the status of operations at the Thai factory.
"In light of the recent flooding in central Thailand, I wanted to update you on the status of operations at our production facilities at Nikon Thailand Corporation, located in the Rojana Industrial Park. Nikon Thailand manufactures entry-level and mid-level D-SLRs as well as a number of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses.
On 6th October, 2011, all companies located in the Rojana Industrial Park, including Nikon, were instructed by the governor of the Ayutthaya province to evacuate the area due to flooding caused by torrential rainfall. This, coupled with the flooding at the facility, has forced Nikon Thailand to temporarily stop production.
I am pleased to share with you that we have not received any reports of injury or loss of life to Nikon employees so far.
Currently, we are waiting to investigate the extent of the damage to the plant and are evaluating how soon regular operations can resume.
Reflecting the severity of this recent natural event, Nikon is in the process of determining to what extent business will be affected. Although we will work tirelessly to support your
demands for Nikon products during the busy Christmas period, there is likely to be product shortages on NIKKOR Lens products and D-SLRs. Please be assured that we will work closely with you to assess how we can best support you.
The flooding in Thailand should have no effect on the availability of other products, including Nikon 1, COOLPIX, higher-end D-SLRs and Sport Optics.
I want to reassure you that we are doing absolutely everything that we can to ensure that there is minimal disruption in the coming months and guarantee to keep you informed with further updates in a timely manner."
Takami Tsuchida
President, Nikon Europe
